About the Course

In 2022, the IMO's Facilitation Committee adopted amendments to the Annex to the Facilitation (FAL) Convention, which makes the single window for data exchange mandatory in ports around the world, marking a significant step of digitalization in shipping. The amendments adopted by resolution FAL.14(46) on 13 May 2022 entered into force on 1 January 2024.  In response to the development of the IMO guidelines and to support the Member States in adopting the new requirements, IMO has developed a new training course to support Implementation of the Maritime Single Window. The course aims to provide a good understanding of the importance of facilitation in maritime trade. It covers the concepts of electronic data exchange and the MSW in the context of ship reporting related to ships arrival, stay and departure. The course also elaborates on key aspects for the planning, implementation and operation of an MSW and provides an overview of available resources as well as case studies.

The course is offered free of charge and is available in English. It is self-paced, requiring no prerequisites for enrollment. Participants can start, pause, resume, or replay the course at any time. Upon successful completion, a certificate of completion can be downloaded and printed.

The course is designed to take 12 hours to complete.
