About the Course

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has developed four OPRC model courses to support the planning, preparedness, and management of oil spill response. These courses have been completed by individuals around the world responsible for overseeing and coordinating effective responses to marine oil pollution.

This introductory IMO e-learning course, entitled “Introduction to Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Co-operation” (Level 0), complements the existing OPRC model courses but does not replace them. It is designed to provide newcomers to the oil spill response community with a comprehensive overview of the key elements of preparedness and response.

The course is offered free of charge and is available in English, French, and Spanish. It is self-paced and requires no prerequisites for enrollment. Participants can start, pause, resume, or replay the course at any time. Upon successful completion, a certificate of completion can be downloaded and printed.

The course is designed to take approximately 6 hours to complete.
